If you’re anything like me, you cruised through the majority of your high school career with minimal effort. You got into college and have attended the first few weeks and they were great. You have been having fun and somehow managing to stay on top of all of your commitments with the same minimal effort you put forth in high school. Then the rude awakening you knew you were in for in the back of your mind rears its ugly head and Mid-term testing begins! You’re scrambling to study and balance the work of others classes while simultaneously attempting to retain your sanity and it’s a futile struggle. It’s during this struggle that you realize what you need to do well, what you need to stay on top of the monster that is college work.

Generally, the best things you can do to organize and plan your collegiate life and stay on top of your work are as follows,

  • Obtain a calendar and take the time to sit down and list all of your important tests, events, and obligations. After you have done this, hang the calendar somewhere you cannot miss seeing it.
  • Remember to check your School email daily so that you know not only what’s going on around campus but also what’s being communicated to you by various faculty and organizations that you have signed up to be a part of.
  • Set aside a portion of your day so that you can reflect on the notes that you have previously taken that day.
  • Take time at the beginning of each week to run down exactly what is due for each class that week and the obligations you have to other things so that you can map out your time.
  • Make a schedule to do things and stick to it.

If you do at least one of these things, you are already leaps and bounds ahead of the monster that is your college work and are on the road to a much more relaxed college career.
