When Will Angels Get Their Turn?

For centuries, supernatural creatures have fascinated the human race. Vampires, werewolves, leprechauns, fairies, and ghosts are only but a few. For the past two to three years, vampires have ruled supernatural entertainment. Vampires have been around for a very long time, but their popularity bloomed when Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight came out. It was shortly followed by shows like True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. Then Fairy Tale creatures started to take center ring. Two movies about Snow White (Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror) came out in theaters at the same time. They were shortly followed by shows like Once Upon a Time and Grimm. Now it seems like fans of the supernatural community have switched their loyalties to zombies. The Walking Dead, a show set during a zombie apocalypse, has over a million fans tuning in to watch it every week.

However, one supernatural creature has been left in the dust: fallen angels. Lately there have been many books published (Hush Hush, Black Wings, Fallen) about these condemned beings. The authors depict the angels as handsome, mysterious, passionate, eternal teenage boys and of course the narrator is a teenage girl. It is no surprise that the angel and the girl fall in love with each other. It has the same storyline as most supernatural romances so why is it not getting any recognition? Perhaps it is due to the fact that it shows fallen angels in a sympathetic light. Some people would see that as dangerous and possibly a bit satanic. However, I think it adds an interesting dimension to good vs. evil. It reminds me of John Milton’s Paradise Lost, an epic poem about Lucifer’s fall and his reign in Hell. All I have to say is that people should show the fallen angels the same respect and love that they have shown the vampires.
