The Coronavirus pandemic has changed our everyday lives as we know it with many industries being shut down besides essential workplaces such as supermarkets and hospitals. Many have lost their jobs and colleges have been forced to shut down and shift their curriculum online. Although it can be difficult to see the bright side with all the constant media attention and the swarm of people continuing to fall ill, it can also be a good time to do many things that were pushed to the side. Here are 8 things people can do to make the most of their time while in quarantine.

Read, Read, Read

With all the free time available to us, it can be a terrific time for dusting off that novel never read before or purchasing some off Amazon.  Although much has been taken away, knowledge is power and there are no excuses to not read now. Before it could be busy with work or going out, but now there is plenty of time to read and capitalize on any free time.

I personally picked up and read some comic books that I never finished and found enjoyment out of it like a kid. A good resource I found to buy comic books from is Newkadia.com. They are a great website that sells Marvel and DC comics for fair prices and with excellent service. I recommend college students who are fans of DC or Marvel heroes to check them out. There are many to choose from. People can also get a free Amazon trial to read some ebooks. Some free material in the form of ebooks has been posted on sites like Tumblr and Reddit too.

Video Games

Ah, video games are starting to prove their worth during a time like this. It can even be interesting to play online games with friends on Xbox or PS4. Even though colleges are closed down, for the time being, students can start a party and talk to each other while playing a game together or not.

Video games can also serve as an escape from the real world. Many games for PlayStation and Xbox owners are getting two free games each month to dive into and sales on various games on the platform as well.

Free Online Courses

People can learn while being stuck in the home with free Ivy League courses being available on a site called freeCodeCamp. A bunch of lectures are free centered around Computer Science, Data Science, Humanities,  Business, and many other subjects. Courses are from prestigious universities like Columbia University, Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Spring Cleaning

Although cleaning can feel like a bummer, it is definitely the season for it. College students can spend time cleaning their apartment with all the free time available or tidy up around the home.

Online Yoga and Physical Workouts

Gyms have been closed nationwide but that does not mean people can not work out. Although they have been closed, workouts have been posted such as yoga exercises.  Students and adults should contact their gyms to see if any online resources were emailed to work out virtually.

However, sit-ups and pushups can be done in the home for some exercise. It can be an advantage if people have an indoor gym or dumbbells they can use to still get something done while in quarantine. People can still go on a jog while practicing being six feet away from each other or go on walks.

Listening to Music

Restaurants and clubs have been closed as we know it but we can still find enjoyment in listening to music on a rainy day or spring evening. Music has not been canceled and can be a good way to boost spirits especially during a time like now.  Rap albums are continuing to be dropped every week with releases from Tory Lanez, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, and other artists.

TV/Streaming Services

Now would be a good time to invest in subscription applications like Disney Plus or create a Netflix account. With no sports being televised, now it can be a perfect time to watch shows and movies on Netflix. When it comes to Disney Plus, many classic Pixar, Disney, and other movies can be watched for just $5.99 a month plus tax.

There is a lot that can also be seen on YouTube with many shows and recorded sporting events being on there. People can also watch funny pranks on the platform.

FaceTiming Friends/Other Services

The pandemic has ruined being able to go out to bars or restaurants with friends or loved ones but people can still talk to each other through FaceTime or services like Skype or Zoom. It can be a classic way to get in touch with friends or family members while practicing social distancing rules.

Although there can be a lot of negativity around the Coronavirus with dreadful news being announced each day on news outlets and online websites. Now can truly be a time to improve skill sets or sit back and relax. This is surely an unprecedented time in US history but we can get through it together by practicing social distancing and staying indoors. Life does not have to be boring as there are many things people can do than they think.
