At first I wanted to see what celebrities wore, because my best friend and I like to play Pretend Diva. But you’ve got me screwed to be wearing heels on an economy plane. So then I researched what professionals suggested, combined that with star style, and settled on a mix of the two: stylish, but realistic.
1.) LAYERS
Not only because the places you’re traveling between are two different temperatures, but because the plane is freezing inside! A thin long-sleeve, and a few jackets over there would suffice — for the fall, at least. Make sure the fabric is breathable! You don’t want heavy wool or sticky velvet and satin.
2.) MAKEUP
Don’t overdo it! If you have a 6 a.m. flight, why do you look like Crusty the Clown? Be sensible, people. Put on a pre-flight face mask, drink some coffee, and wear lip balm. A little skin break wouldn’t hurt.
3.) JEANS
This is just my personal opinion. Leggings are all fun and games until your skin can’t breathe and it’s hot and sweaty and they’re sticking to you, or they rip from all the shuffling. Jeans are sturdy, somewhat breathable, and dark wash is good in a casual OR professional environment. Throw aside your leggings for that trip to Cape Cod, wear those favorite jeans!
4.) POCKETS PLEASE!
Make sure you have hidden pockets for important things, so that it’s within your reach but not the reach of pick pocketers. (I’m inventing that word). This is me being paranoid, but not stupid. You really could drop your ID if it’s not safely tucked away.
5.) COMFORTABLE SHOES
If you like height, wear wedges.
If you like a little extra pep and movement in your step, workout sneakers.
If you like classic comfort, Converse. (BONUS: The older, the better )
It’s all about comfort and efficiency. Trying to fix your shoes while attempting to focus on your trip is hell in and of itself.
I’m a sucker for a good pair of BOOTS. They’re cute, and comfortable! Sturdy ankle ones for the warm weather, tall suede for the chillier days. Shoes matter.
6.) JEWELRY
Try not to wear it! You want simple studs in your ears, but no over the top necklaces you have to worry about becoming tangled and no expensive watches to lose. Keep it simple.
7.) BAGS
Aside from your mandatory and sturdy suitcases, your carry-on can be as cute and as simple as you want. As a college student, that’s automatically my book bag.
But as a business traveler, a smooth leather case with a cute personalized portfolio will inspire future deals. As a vacationer, etc., a cute oversize tote that fits and zips is a must.
8.) HAIR, because why not?
I love talking about hair. My first time traveling I had my hair down, but I quickly found myself rushing to a corner fishing a hair tie out of my bag to put it back into a ponytail while the avalanches of people swept by.
Hair, it just gets in your way.
Braiding it back will prevent that, and once you let it loose at your destination, it’ll look cute and wavy!
9.) MISCELLANEOUS
Just another word for “Random.” BAM! Educated. Didn’t expect that, didja?
This would include hats (not too big), sunglasses (on your shirt or head), belts (not too tight, or hard to undo).
Make sure to bring:
Lip Balm
Sunscreen
Lotion
Zit Cream
First Aid Kit
A Good Book
These should all fit into your backpack, tote, or briefcase.
I believe I covered everything! ^.^ Have a great day and a good trip!
